Oregon Trail Rally

Ready for some dust kickin’, gravel grindin’ extreme raceway action?? Then don’t miss this weekend’s Oregon Trail Rally! Starting this Friday night, local and international competitors will gather to tear it up at the Portland International Raceway. Watch some of the best rally drivers fly through rugged terrain in some of the sweetest souped-up rides! Check out Dufur and Goldendale for even more action on gravel logging roads. Spring Used Book Sale

With the end of the school year in the not-too-distant future, it’s time to stock up on some new summer reading materials! Grab your little readers and head to this weekend’s Used Book Sale at the Lloyd Center to peruse 1,000’s of well-sorted, gently-used books, audio-visual materials, sheet music, comics, pamphlets and maps from a huge variety of genres. Earth Day at the Oregon Garden

Celebrate Earth Day at the lovely Oregon Garden, where admission is free this Sunday! Spend the day on the beautiful grounds of the Oregon Garden and take part in all kinds of fun activities. There will be face painting, alpacas, crafts, lessons in composting, a chance to drive an electric car, live music, vendors and more! A perfect way to celebrate our beloved Earth. Free ($5 suggested donation),

The Fambly Ramble with Justin Roberts & Red Yarn

It’s that time again! Get those rug-cuttin’ kiddos together for another fantastic Fambly Ramble event, featuring award-winning artist Justin Roberts and favorite Portland celeb band, Red Yarn! With activities provided by Hike It Baby, NW Kids and Yoga with Karine, as well as food and drink from McMenamin’s Mission Theater, this Saturday afternoon will be a blast for the whole family. $10-12,

Earth Day Spring Festival

Join together with a common love of spring time, gardening, Earth Day and the awesomely educational Learning Gardens Laboratory at PSU. About Ruth Plourde

It was the summer of 2015, and Ruth had had it up to here (read: her eyeballs) with east coast livin’, sensing that, for her, Philadelphia might be more lovable from afar. Perhaps she had listened to Tom Waits’ Goin’ Out West two too many times that day, or perhaps dreams of wine country, the Cascades, and temperate rain forests had finally stolen her heart, but once she bought that plane ticket to Portland, OR, there was no going back. Ruth is a barista by day and a poet by night/lunch break. She is currently working on her first poetry collection to be published sometime this year. She couldn’t be happier to be interning for NW Kids Magazine and to be a part of the NW Kids community!
