Free Activities For You This Week

1-2-3

Fun Active/Interactive game.  ROUND 1:  The players walk around the playing area.  When someone says stop, everyone finds a partner and for 60-90-seconds, they compete.  They take turns counting to 3, and continue rotating back and forth until one player fails.  Then they start over.  For example: Player 1 says 1,Player 2 says 2, Player 1 says 3, Player 2 says 1, Player 1 says 2, Player 2 says 3…and it keeps going.  After the 60-90, seconds, everyone walks or skips around the playing area, when someone else says stop again, then they start over with a new partner.  ROUND 2:  Identical, except you replace the #2 with a finger snap.  So it will go 1-Snap-3 and rotates, just like the 1-2-3 in round 1.  After 3 sessions of this, ROUND 3:  Identical, except 2 is back, and 3 is replaced with a hand clap:  So it goes 1-2-Clap.  ROUND 4:  Identical, except 2 & 3 go away for good, and the rotation is 1-Snap-Clap.  If you are a family of 3 or 5, you could have a group of 3 compete with 2 people, and the losing player steps out, as the watching player jumps in to play the winning player.

Ball Pass

This is a group game, where the entire family will work together.  It is simply fun and collaborative, with tons of teamwork.  One player passes a small ball to another player next to him/her.  Once the ball is passed a certain way (For example, held with left forefinger and left thumb) from one player to another. It can never be passed that way ever again.  If a player runs out of ideas, or begins to pass the ball a way that has already been used, teammates can help them with ideas.  Tons of creative thought, communication, and collaboration.

Hacky Sack Attack

Kind of a tag game.  Everyone gets a hacky sack and they have to balance it flat on their extended palm.  At no point can they close their fingers around their hacky sacks.  Make a small playing area, so the players are relatively close to each other.  Note, you can make the playing area larger, IF you want.  The players have to chase each other around without dropping their hacky sacks, and attempt to tap their opponent’s arms or hands to knock the hacky sacks out of their hands.  If that happens, the player who made the hacky sack fall gets a point.  Note, make sure everyone keeps score.  It can be a challenge as the action is fast, and you have to multi task by playing the game and keeping score. As you will see, if you keep the playing area small, so the players are close to each other, it becomes faster and a bit more difficult.  We like to have the tagging done with only 2 fingers. Another option for the game would be to play a round where players hold their hacky sack in the palm of their weaker hand.

Fast Fingers

This is a fun game that begins with the players in pairs, facing each other. Both partners start with their hands behind their back. Together, they say 1,2,3, go! On go, they both hold up any number of fingers using both hands and the goal is to quickly count how many fingers are being held up between the two of them.  First one to yell out the correct number wins! The only number that is off limits is a double zero from a player (two closed fists, no fingers sticking up).  Play each round for approximately 1 minute, then start over with a new partner. This can also be played in groups of 3, having them take turns. Slower tempo game that uses teamwork, math skills, and quick thinking!  IF you want a physical action penalty for losing players, have them do 5 somethings:  Squats or Jumping Jacks work.
