Here’s Play. Fit. Fun’s family activity ideas for this week using simple equipment found around the house!

Kick the Rubbish

Fun active kicking game.  Inside or out, but better outside!  Place 10-20 items upright, spread out  in your yard or playing area.  This can be tall plastic cups, solo plastic cups, large building blocks, vertical sports cones, you name it.  Set up a kicking spot 10-feet in front of the playing area & vertical items.  Each player gets 1 ball, and when we begin, they kick from the kicking spot, trying to knock over upright items.  Hit or miss, they must run & retrieve their ball after every kick.  They get 1 minute to knock over as much as possible, and can only kick from the kicking spot.

Box Flip Challenge

Each player gets a box, that has the top and bottom flaps cut off, leaving only the sides.  Using a sock ball, bean back or stuffed ball/animal, players start at one point, and toss their object into their box, 2 feet away.  If they make it, they flip the box forward, grab their object, run back to the starting/throwing point and throw again.  If they miss, the box gets flipped back one move.  1st player to get to the end of the designated playing area wins!

Ramp Ball

Think home made skee ball!  Use 3-4 containers that balls can fall into, and line them up in a line…either touching each other or a few inches apart.  Build a ramp, that will be placed in front of the containers.  This can be a long card board box, a long piece of plywood or plastic, 2-3 card board boxes taped together.  As you prop it up at the end, near the containers, note, that you might need to put something under the ramp, around the middle, to support the middle of the ramp so it soes not sag.  The game begins with players standing at the front of the ramp, taking turns rolling 1 of their 3-5 balls up the ramp…attempting to get it to land in one of the containers lined up at the end of the ramp.  1st container is 5 points, 2nd one is 10 points, 3rd one is 15 points, and if you have more than 3 you can keep adding points!  Containers can be boxes, laundry baskets, plastic 5 gallon buckets.
