Tips for Keeping your family and community healthy

  1. Practice social distancing by staying at least six feet away from people while in public places.
  2. Wash hands with mild soap and water, or use and alcohol based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  3. Avoid touching your face, and cough and sneeze into the crook of your arms.
  4. Limit unnecessary travel and cancel travel plans to areas with high infection rates.
  5. Limit unnecessary exposure by keeping gatherings less than 10 people.
  6. Clean and disinfect your home more frequently.
  7. Consider getting a flu shot if you haven’t already, and make sure your child received the recommended vaccine for pneumonia (PCV-13)

*Note: the above vaccines do not prevent COVID-19, but can lessen the stress on the immune system for those infected

Ask the expert

Q: “When Should I consider contacting my provider about COVID 19?”

A: “Currently there are two main scenarios that mean it’s probably time to call your kid’s doctor. The first is fever plus exposure, and may or may not include a cough. This means there are signs of illness an d you’ve come in contact with someone known to have the virus or have been in an area with known cases.

The second is the combination of a fever, a chronic medical condition and a cough. This means there are signs of illness and your child has a chronic condition such as asthma or heart disease.”
