Another glorious summer weekend is almost upon us and while I can’t believe I am saying this, the mid 90’s just may feel like a refreshing break after this extreme heat event! Luckily, there are plenty of ways to shake off the cabin fever. Here are a few of our ideas:

Art in the Dark: One Shy of Ten

13th Annual ART in the DARK: “One Shy of Ten: The Intangible Dimension” is A-WOL Dance Collective’s aerial dance show that you will not want to miss. This annual performance is a fantastical, illuminated, full-length, evening production set in a unique and rare outdoor theater style setting. Imagine dancers suspended from the trees in West Linn’s Mary S. Young State Recreation Area! Fri, Sat,Sun; 8:30pm (doors at 7:30), $15-$28

Free Open Swim at Pier Pool

Ready to head back outdoors and find some free water fun? Portland Parks and Rec has you covered all summer long! Friday afternoon’s open swim is at NoPo’s Pier Pool and no registration is needed. Drop in on Fridays through Aug 25th (check the NW Kids Calendar for other dates and times)! 1:45pm-4:30pm, free.

31st Annual Fremont Fest

Fremont Fest is always a great time! Join the neighborhood for a kid, bike and pet parade starting at 10AM, pub crawl at some of the neighborhood’s best breweries and restaurants, kids activities and of course great shopping in the streets!  Come see 125+ vendors of handmade items, clothing, art, food and so much more. 10am-5pm, free.

14th Annual Summer Festival at Rice NW Museum of Rocks & Minerals

Any rockhounds in your family? I know I have one in mine! Join the Rice NW Museum of Rocks & Minerals for their 14th annual Summer Festival. This outdoor event features a wide variety of rock, mineral, gem, jewelry, and fossil dealers. They will have food for purchase, live music, and plenty of fun family activities. If you prefer to pack a lunch and find a shady spot on their property, this is also welcomed! The museum will also be open and accessible during the festival. Sat and Sun 10am-pm, $5 for over 5 (4 and under are FREE)

Lents Founders Fair

Join the Lents neighborhood for the second annual Oregon Walkways, an open-streets event that celebrates our communities and encourages walking. This year, they’re partnering with Lents Neighborhood Association and Green Lents to bringing the event to the historic Lents neighborhood, with 1.5 miles of free, family-friendly fun featuring craft and food vendors, live music and dancing, community booths, games, the Belmont Goats, and even a chicken beauty contest! 11am-4pm, free.
