Free Activities for This Week

Slam the Cans

You may remember this from the county fair, or a past carnival. It’s a simple game, but so fun!  Get 10 cans out of your recycling bin.  Any cans work, but aluminum cans are a bit more durable than pop cans.  Stack the cans on the ground, or on a table in a pyramid:  4 on the bottom, then 3 on the next level, then 2, then 1.  Standing a distance away, have a throwing, target tossing competition of who can knock the most cans over.  Start closer to the cans if you need to (like 6-8 feet) and then make the throwing distance larger for a bigger challenge (like 12-15 feet).  You can use any kind of balls for throwing that fit in your hand, but a softer ball (tennis ball, bean bag, etc.) works best.

Book Bat

This is a fun volleying/tennis style game, racquets (tennis, pickle ball, etc) and a ball.  It can be played inside or outside.  If you don’t have racquets, use books! The books should be somewhat large in size to give the players more hitting surface. The ball can be anything:  Sock ball or something soft/light for indoors, or tennis balls, rubber balls for outside. See how many hits a partner can get before the ball hits the ground.

Cup Stack Bowling

Each player gets 6 cups and either one smaller ball or a sock ball.  Each player stacks their cups into a pyramid with 3 cups on the bottom, then 2 then 1 and bowl from 8-10 feet away.  Miss, and they run and retrieve their ball and repeat.  Hit the cups, and they receive a point. Re-stack and repeat.  At the end of each round, the player with the most points wins!  Make sure you also play rounds using your less dominant hand as well.
